Tagline ~80 chars

The translator that keeps working when the network doesn't — including in China, no VPN.

Short ~50 words

Tova Translate is a camera + voice translation app for travellers, language learners, and the heritage-speaker diaspora. It reads any sign in 11 scripts, transcribes speech in 118 languages, and keeps working when the network doesn't — including in China without a VPN.

Medium ~110 words

Tova Translate is a camera + voice translation app built for the moments other translators give up. Point a phone at any sign and Tova reads it back in 11 script families, with per-character pinyin, romaji, or hangeul rendered above each glyph in real time. Two-way voice conversation runs on-device via OpenAI's Whisper Tiny model, so audio never leaves the phone. When the backend is unreachable — including behind the Great Firewall — on-device neural translation takes over automatically. Free on iOS, with offline phrase packs free for everyone and an optional Pro subscription for document OCR and three-way boardroom voice translation.

Long ~280 words

Tova Translate is a camera + voice translation app available now on iOS, with Android in development. It is built around a simple observation that most translation apps miss: when you're actually travelling, knowing what a character means is not the same as being able to say it out loud. Tova solves this by rendering per-character pinyin, romaji, hangeul, and other romanizations directly above every glyph the camera sees, in real time, across 11 script families including CJK, Thai, Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari, and Tibetan. Two-way voice translation transcribes speech in 118 languages using OpenAI's Whisper Tiny model running entirely on-device, meaning audio never leaves the phone. A second design priority is reliability under hostile network conditions. When the backend cannot reach Google — most commonly behind the Great Firewall in mainland China — on-device neural translation kicks in automatically using Apple's Translation framework on iOS and Google ML Kit on Android. No VPN, no manual configuration. Tova is free to download — and the 29 offline phrase packs plus the full CC-CEDICT Chinese dictionary are free for everyone. An optional Pro subscription ($49.99/yr) adds favourites, glossary support, learner mode, access to non-Google translation engines including Baidu, DeepL, and OpenAI, three-way Boardroom voice translation for meetings with speakers in three different languages, multi-column document OCR, PDF upload, and a curated medical/legal domain pack. Team subscriptions are available for organisations from 3 to 10 seats. The app is designed for travellers, language learners, and members of the heritage-speaker diaspora who can speak a language they cannot read.
